History of Istanbul - Part One

After returning from our trip in the Hot Air Balloons, we grabbed our luggage from the lobby in Sultan Cave Suites. My dad, step-mom, and I all got on the shuttle to Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport and flew off to Istanbul.

Istanbul has so much history! As usual I will dive right into all of the history of Istanbul, which might be more interesting than Cappadocia. In Istanbul a lot of different things have occurred, and it has changed the course of history for decades.

As most know Istanbul is located in both Europe and Asia. The city is well known for being divided by the Bosphorus. A lot of the tourism that goes to Turkey is due to this division in the city.

History of Istanbul - Part Two

My favourite history lesson was in my grade 12 History class (I know I was a nerd), and we began our lecture with the crusade in Constantinople. This took place in 1096. The goal was to take back the Holy Land from the Muslim rule. The ruler at this time was Alexios I Komnenos emperor of the Byzantine empire. Pope Urban II had begun this conquest and began the first of many. This was caused by the Byzantine empire expanding over the Holy Land.
